Description

The rich heritage of children’s folk songs is captured in this beloved musical tale, which tells the delightful story of the courtship between two unlikely creatures. Radiant illustrations capture the whimsical narrative, which tells of a persistent frog and the mouse he loves, his proposal to her, and the fun-filled wedding and feast that follow—until a menacing cat interrupts the celebration, and the groom finds himself kidnapped by a duck. Guidelines for downloading the accompanying complimentary song are provided, a timeless tune which has previously been recorded by such legends as Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and Elvis Presley. With full notations and lyrics as well as a detailed history of this classic yarn, this irresistible picture book continues the legacy of preserving the best music for future generations.

Any folk songs spanning hundreds of years would have different versions. I appreciated that this version had music included in the back that had a very different moods than more popular versions today.I saw a reviewer talk about the pistol being in this version. I am a teacher and parent. I understand kids are going through trauma regarding shootings, but the pistol is not even worth mentioning really, not even part of the story. It is a very antiquated pistol in the illustration as the "costumes " represent the time period the song originated. Are kids not going to see paintings of Washington with a pistol? It is not celebrating violence at all.
